25. April 2023: The IN GLASS Technology: A fs-Laser Microprocessing Solution
Dipl. Phys ETH Sandro M.O.L. Schneider, Yalosys
Sandro M.O.L. Schneider studied solid state physics at the ETH Zürich and finalised his studies with a Diploma in the field of super conductivity and quantum sensors. The interest in microsystems, sensors and focus on glass motivated his whole professional carrier through the global automation, medical and process industry. In 2014 Sandro M.O.L. Schneider coo-founded the company smolsys ltd. with the focus of using Laser technology to seal and encapsulate Microsystems IN GLASS, out of this a spin-off company was founded with experienced USP-Laser and wafer handling engineers, the company Yalosys. The mission of this highly skilled and experienced crew is to make this IN GLASS technology, which is based on Laser Microprocessing Solutions, available to the global and fastgrowing market of IN GLASS microsystem devices in photonics, medical implants, quantum sensors and communication, the field is open for new ideas and applications.

27. September 2022: Collimation and beamshaping microoptics for diodelasers, applications and solutions
Beschreibung Vortrag
In the high-power diode laser industry, the available laser power from edge emitting facets has to be collimated for use in the many different applications. Some variants for this collimation function do exist, industrially widespread is the use of glass material collimation micro-optics, separate for fast and slow axis of the laser emission. We will focus on the first lens after the diode laser facet, the fast axis collimator (FAC), formed as a circular lens. Performance aspects for the optical collimation function and its application as a micro-optical assembly are presented. In view of the rising power levels available for high power blue diode laser emission we show results for FAC in fused silica material, as opposed to high refractive index glasses. Fully automated variants for assembly of micro-optics on a bottom tab is done in a controlled active positioning mode relative to the facet of the Fabry-Perot cavity emission with up to 5 or 6 axis and with feedback from the laser light collimated by the refractive component. The FAC also is automatically characterized by an optical measurement in front of a specific diode laser source. As examples micro-optic collimation is presented for two applications, laser-spot formation for individually addressable laser bars for CTP printing and collimation for a high-power diode bar emitter developed for automotive LIDAR applications.
