Technology for the Global South

Our exchange of knowledge and experience with the Global South aims to secure decentralised drinking water supplies, wastewater treatment, hygiene and sustainable agriculture in particular. The opportunities offered by digitalisation should also be exploited. Particular attention is paid to renewable energies as a key energy supply technology for access to innovative processes and products.

In these areas, we develop application-oriented solutions that are tailored to local needs and are characterised in particular by technical robustness and cost efficiency, but should always be innovative and of high quality. In our projects, partners from the South should lead the way. We are happy to involve students in the work.

Technology transfer

We support you from the planning to the realisation of your project. To do this, we connect you with the right people and institutes in our water cluster in order to develop the desired solutions with a project team.

  • Planning and realisation of decentralised technologies and concepts - low-tech and high-tech
  • Developing and realising energy self-sufficient systems, such as solar-powered water treatment, groundwater pumping, irrigation or cooling
  • Providing expertise - knowledge transfer in interdisciplinary and/or intercultural projects
  • Information and provision of digital technologies for learning, measuring or data collection
  • Planning and implementation of the Water 4.0, water-sensitive urban development, water development and agrocleantech programmes

Educational opportunities are the basis for social development. We support training programmes relating to water, energy and agriculture. Specific focal points are

  • Content development, organisation and implementation of vocational and technical training courses
  • Exchange programmes for international intercultural exchange (internships, winter/summer schools, etc.)
  • Collaboration in networks to make our knowledge available for co-operation
