Research

The Department of Finance and Law (IFL) offers practice-orientated research projects in the fields of Accounting & Corporate Finance, Banking & Finance and Business Law. Scientific methods are combined with practical applications in order to develop solutions that can be transferred directly into practice. Our research is funded by public grants or private clients. With an interdisciplinary approach and many years of experience, we are at your side as a reliable research partner.

Subsidised research

The innovation cheques from Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency, are aimed at testing the feasibility of new ideas. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with up to 250 employees can receive up to CHF 15’000 with an innovation cheque for collaboration with a research institution. As part of a preliminary study, concept developments and idea studies as well as analyses of the innovation and market potential of new processes, products, services or technologies are financially supported.

Innosuisse's innovation projects serve to finance practice-oriented innovation projects in which private or public organisations produce new findings in collaboration with a research partner. Innosuisse bears a significant proportion of the project costs and supports projects in all subject areas that deal with the development of innovative products, services or processes.

Practical examples

Self-assessment ESG profiling preliminary study

The preliminary study, developed by the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (OST) in collaboration with UMushroom, aims to identify the individual ESG preferences of investors in a targeted manner. Using a scientific model, it was possible to visualise personal sustainability preferences and take them into account when making investment decisions.

Independent valuation framework for security tokens

Security tokens (STs) offer a new financing option for companies and enable the digital trading of securities without intermediaries. As the technology is highly regulated and fraud cases have already occurred, the project has developed a valuation framework to certify ‘sound’ investment opportunities.

Entrepreneurial resilience to increase crisis capability

In times of crisis, it becomes clear which companies are resilient, survive the crisis or even use it as an opportunity for something new. Unfortunately, it also becomes clear that many companies fail to do so. The project identified success factors for resilience, e.g. flexibility, speed and redundancy, and developed various simulation models.

Practical examples

Integrated risk management for inpatient care facilities

As part of the interdisciplinary research project, a guide for practitioners in care homes was developed. This enables risks to be easily identified, assessed and managed. In addition, a mobile web application was created that contains the most important content of the guide and is also available to care home managers on mobile devices. It also contains a large number of templates for support.

Everyday art as an innovation and integration factor in companies in the Lake Constance region

The research project used the example of music to determine which prerequisites, processes and results exist for cooperation between commercial enterprises and art or artists in the Lake Constance region and how the skills of musicians can be implemented or utilised in companies. Based on the results, a handbook was developed that is aimed at companies and musicians.
