International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels – ReMeF Symposium 2025

Renewable Metal Fuels offer a game-changing solution for generating heat and electricity year-round based on long term energy storage in a solid metallic energy carrier.

In February 2025, the first International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels (ReMeF 2025) will take place in Rapperswil, SG, Switzerland.

International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels – ReMeF Symposium 2025

Wednesday, 12. Feb 2025 , OST, Campus Rapperswil, Aula
  • Day 1, Feb. 12: Explore the basics and latest scientific developments of this promising emerging and fast developing technology. Day 1 will focus on aluminium as an energy carrier, provide an overview on ReMeF in general and on iron cycles.
  • Day 2, Feb. 13: Learn about demonstration projects. Meet startups and companies that are offering their solutions.

Renewable Metal Fuels, such as aluminium and iron, stand out as promising candidates for long term energy storage, bringing the power and heat of the summer sun into winter. They offer safe, efficient, and carbon-free renewable energy solutions. With their ability to be stored for longer periods and transported over long distances without losses, they address the critical need for reliable, scalable, and sustainable energy storage methods.

Compared to conventional batteries or other Power-to-X processes, Renewable Metal Fuels have higher energy densities at potentially lower costs and environmental impacts. They may be the game changers that pave the way for 100% renewable energy supply anywhere, anytime, and lead to a cleaner, greener future as we combat anthropogenic climate change.

For poster presentation, please submit your abstract until 1st October to remef@ost.ch. The template is available here for download.

Register now! Connect to the ReMeF community and learn about this exciting new development!

The beautiful OST campus Rapperswil directly at lake Zürich is waiting for you!

This Symposium is organized by SPF Institute for Solar Technology and supported by the EU project REVEALSPF and UMTEC are the two Institutes of OST that have been at the forefront of developing aluminium energy storage cycles.

The First International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels is at the same time the 3rd MeCRE conference, thereby continuing the story of previous workshops that focused on iron energy cycles with a symposium that focusses on aluminium energy cycles on day 1. Learn more about MeCRE here
