International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels – ReMeF 2025

«Renewable Metal Fuels» offer a game-changing solution for generating heat and electricity year-round based on long term renewable energy storage in a solid metallic energy carrier.

In February 2025, the first International Symposium on Renewable Metal Fuels - ReMeF 2025 - will take place in Rapperswil, directly at lake Zürich.

  • Day 1: Feb 12, 2025: Discover the basics and latest scientific developments regarding seasonal energy storage in metals. In focus: aluminium as an energy carrier and energy storage cycles based on iron.
  • Day 2: Feb 13, 2025: Learn more about market potential and demonstration projects. Meet startups and companies that develop and offer solutions based on ReMeF.

Renewable metal fuels such as aluminium and iron are in pole position for long-term storage of renewable energy as they offer higher energy density and are easier to store and transport than combustible gases and liquids. The ability to be stored for large periods and transported over long distances without loss addresses the need for a reliable, scalable, and sustainable energy supply in locations and times with limited self-sufficiency potential.

Renewable metal fuels can be the game-changers that pave the way for 100% renewable energy supply anywhere, anytime, and lead to a cleaner, greener future. Game-change instead of climate change is what we aim for.

Register now! Connect with the ReMeF community and learn more about the latest developments!

The beautiful OST campus Rapperswil directly at lake Zürich is waiting for you!

Interested to present a poster during ReMeF symposium? Please submit your abstract based on this template by December 15, 2024 to remef@ost.ch.

The symposium is organized by the SPF Institute for Solar Technology and supported by the EU project REVEAL.  At OST, SPF and UMTEC are working on the development of aluminium-based energy storage cycles and are taking a pioneering role in this field.

The first International Symposium on 'Renewable Metal Fuels' is also the 3rd MeCRe conference, building on previous workshops focused on iron energy cycles.
