General project

European Film Festival of Generations in Switzerland

The European Film Festival of Generations is being organised in Switzerland for the first time this year. The IAF Institute for Ageing Research is coordinating the organisation of individual events in the canton of St. Gallen.

As part of the film festival, films about old age, ageing and demographic change will be shown. The films convey differentiated images of old age and show old age as a developmentally dynamic phase of life with potential and resources for the individual and society. The films are also intended to convey content that subsequently invites the audience to engage in dialogue under the guidance of experts from science, practice or politics.
The film serves as a medium or means of communication to start a dialogue and raise questions: About one's own and the common, the present and the future age(ing). It is intended to raise awareness of demographic change and the importance of active and healthy ageing. It is intended to promote dialogue between the generations as well as the willingness for civic engagement.
The festival concept has been running for 13 years and has been nominated for the German Demography Award 2023.

The festival is organised on a decentralised basis and is implemented with the help of local organisers in cities, municipalities, neighbourhoods or institutions. These organise individual events directly on site. An event consists of a film screening followed by a moderated discussion with the audience and, where appropriate, an aperitif. The implementation period of the film festival is on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons (1 October) in October 2024.

Are you interested in taking part in the Film Festival of Generations and becoming a local organiser? Do you need more information about participating in the Film Festival of Generations as a local organiser?

We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to receiving your informal application by the end of July 2024.
